Countdown Begins for Mediterranean Games
To commemorate the one-year milestone leading up to the grand opening, a countdown timer was revealed in Taranto, signaling the remaining time until the prestigious athletic gathering kicks off.
The unveiling took place outside the municipal building and brought together numerous notable individuals.
Present at the event were Massimo Ferrarese, appointed commissioner and head of the Organizing Committee; Davide Tizzano, leader of the International Committee; and the city's mayor, Piero Bitetti.
Ferrarese referred to the countdown as "a symbol of collective commitment — of a community, a territory, and a great Mediterranean family that believes in sport as a force that unites, inspires, and builds."
He noted that additional events will be hosted across other locations in Puglia, adding, "It's therefore a moment of joy for our region. What I ask of the citizens and all the institutions is: give us a hand. It took seven years to do all this. We have to do it in two and a half years, since we started, and that's an exceptional thing."
Ferrarese also pointed out that 41 building projects across 21 cities were in progress, underlining the intensity of completing such an ambitious endeavor within a condensed timeframe.
